Important Websites
Before you book anything, make sure you’ve checked these resources below for important information!
Travel.State.Gov – This government site has updates on travel advisories and more. Make sure you check the specific location you plan on visiting for any advisories and/or requirements. The site has other useful tools like a traveler’s check list, documents you’ll need, passport/visa info, and more! Urgent travel alerts are listed at the top of the website.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – The CDC has a section just for travel and Covid-19. Have a look at their website and resources to make sure you have the information you need to stay safe and protected from any diseases that are out there.
U.S. Embassy – Information for all US Embassies, Consulates, and Diplomatic Missions. It is encouraged and recommended to have this information for the country you plan to visit.
Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) – STEP allows you to enroll and get alerts while on your vacation. It also enrolls you with the nearest Embassy or Consulate.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection – Information you need to know for returning to the United States.
For Your Consideration
Passports – Is your passport in good standing? The general rule is your passport must be good 6 months after your date of travel concludes. Check the country’s government/tourism website to be sure.
Visas – Some countries require you to have a visa along with your passport. The country’s government/tourism website lists this information.
Vaccinations – Check the CDC’s Travelers’ Health section for vaccines required before traveling.
Currency Exchange – Check to see if you need to exchange currency before leaving the U.S. and/or if you’ll be able to exchange in the country you’re visiting.
Notify The Bank – Let your bank know you’ll be traveling abroad. You don’t want transactions declining when you’re making a purchase.
Universal Electrical Outlet Adapter – Different strokes for different folks… this applies to plugs too! Some countries don’t have the same electrical sockets as we do. Don’t get stuck trying to find an adapter to charge your phone! I suggest getting a portable charger!
Destination Norms – Research! Find out the do’s & don’ts of the place you’re visiting. For example, make sure you check cultural customs, legal customs, learn some common greetings, etc.
Copy Your Travel Documents – To insure you don’t have any disruptions, make copies of your travel documents. Separate them from your original documents.
Packing List – Create a packing list ahead of time to make sure you don’t forget anything!
In Conclusion, make sure you know before you go! I hope these resources help as a starting place for your next vacation abroad! Let us know if you have any additions, questions or concerns! Happy and safe travels to you!!
